About

Obongjayar is the stage name of Steven Umoh, a Nigerian-born, London-based singer and songwriter known for his genre-defying sound that blends Afrobeat, hip-hop, electronic, soul, and rock. His music explores themes of identity, spirituality, and social issues through a fluid vocal style that shifts between rapping and singing. He gained widespread recognition through his work on Richard Russell's Everything Is Recorded project and his feature on Fred again..'s hit "Adore U" (2023). His debut album Some Nights I Dream of Doors (2022) showcased his emotionally charged, introspective approach, followed by his sophomore release Paradise Now (2025). His stage name combines the Ibibio word for "king" (Obong) with "Jayar," a nod to being named after his father.
