A satellite of St. Petersburg’s Hermitage, this museum (2009–2023) occupied the Amstelhof, a 17th-century retirement home, and showcased rotating exhibits of Russian imperial splendor—from Fabergé eggs to Catherine the Great’s dresses. Highlights included Dutch-Russian historical ties, like Peter the Great’s 1697 stay in Amsterdam to study shipbuilding (his modest "cabin" is preserved in Zaandam). Though closed for renovation in 2023, its legacy lives on in collaborations with Dutch museums. The building itself, with its grand courtyard and golden-age architecture, remains a landmark.
