DJ Premier (born Christopher Edward Martin, March 21, 1966) is an American record producer and DJ widely recognized as one of hip-hop's greatest producers. He is best known as half of the legendary duo Gang Starr with rapper Guru, and for defining the "New York sound" of the 1990s through his signature boom-bap production style. Premier's jazz, funk, and soul-infused beats shaped classic albums including Nas' 'Illmatic', The Notorious B.I.G.'s 'Ready to Die', and Jay-Z's 'Reasonable Doubt'. He has produced for Eminem, Kanye West, Common, Joey Bada$$, Drake, and Griselda, among many others. He also forms half of PRhyme with Royce da 5'9" and founded Year Round Records in 2010.
