Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker (born 11 June 1960, Mechelen, Belgium) is a Belgian choreographer and dancer considered one of the most significant figures in contemporary dance. In 1983 she founded the Brussels-based dance company Rosas, whose debut work Fase, Four Movements to the Music of Steve Reich established her signature approach: rigorous geometric structures set to minimalist and contemporary music. Over four decades she has developed a body of work spanning the full range of Western music history — from Bach and Beethoven to Coltrane, Brel, and electronic music — earning her the Polar Music Prize (2015), the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale (2019), and a place at P.A.R.T.S., the Brussels performing arts school she co-founded in 1995.
